Exposition "Le dessin élargi" de Bernard Moninot

From 12 March to 12 June 2022
At the Maeght Foundation

This spring, Bernard Moninot will be honoured, from 12 March to 12 June 2022, with a major monographic exhibition, of which the Marguerite and Aimé Maeght Foundation is the third stage after the Domaine de Kerguéhennec (Morbihan) and the Musée de l'Hospice Saint-Roch in Issoudun. Bernard Moninot will present at the Maeght Foundation unpublished in situ works created for the place.

Guest curator: Olivier Delavallade

In the 1980s, Bernard Moninot redefined his work by integrating the spatial dimensions traditionally linked to drawing with experimental research in which the artist explored the possibilities offered by certain phenomena, such as shadow, to produce visible forms of time. He renounces the idea of mastery and his work then turns towards natural phenomena: light, shadow, wind, sound waves... The studio becomes an observatory and then a laboratory. From 2005 onwards, Bernard Moninot created works with more complex issues. He combines three notions that constitute an artistic programme: chance, the unconscious and intuition. His installations are becoming more and more autobiographical. They are accompanied by preparatory drawings but also by more autonomous drawings made simultaneously after the installations. The creative process is the main subject linked to the development of time. In his diaries, the artist records small events, "a lighter way of bringing the time of life into my work", he says. The exhibition at the Maeght Foundation will feature seven major installations created over the past ten years: Antichambre, Ensecrètement, Lumière fossile, Objets de silence, Chambre d'écho, Point de rosée and Mémoire du Vent as well as works that the artist has created especially for the Fondation Marguerite et Aimé Maeght.
